About Us

Who are we ?

Admiral Care is an independent Homecare Provider based in Portsmouth, established to respond to the care needs of our community and committed to providing a comprehensive range of domiciliary care and support to people of all ages and disabilities (over 18), who for a variety of reasons find it difficult to cope with domestic responsibilities and their own personal care needs.

Our care services are provided to both the private and public sectors, and undertaken by a team of trained and experienced staff. Your needs for care and support are identified through an assessment; which may involve a Care Manager from the Local Authority.

Admiral Care aim to provide you with a comprehensive care service the highest quality within your own home environment. Admiral Care strives to offer a responsive, efficient and professional service which is tailored to meet your individual needs.

We operate within the Portsmouth, Havant and Portchester areas, with our Responder Service available in the following areas: PO1, PO2, PO3, PO4, PO5, PO6, PO7, PO8, PO9, PO10, PO11, PO16 and PO17

Your Charter Rights

Admiral Care respect the right of each Client to lead as independent and fulfilling a life as possible. Admiral Care have set out a Client’s Charter of Rights which we believe should be the minimum entitlement for you. Admiral Care Staff are sensitive to, and will observe, the standards which we have identified.

Client Rights

The aim of good quality domiciliary care must always be to promote a way of life for clients’ which permits then to enjoy, to the greatest possible extent, their rights as individual human beings. The following rights are fundamental for our Company’s work:

Privacy An individual’s right to privacy involves being free from intrusion or unwelcome attention.

Dignity The right to dignity involves recognising the intrinsic value of people as individuals and the specific nature of each person’s particular needs.

Independence Having opportunities to think, plan, act and take sensibly calculated risks without continual reference to others.

Security In providing services to people with disabilities, there is a difficult balance to be struck between helping them to experience as much independence as possible and making sure they are not exposed to unnecessary hazards. This means helping to provide an environment and support structure, which offers sensible protection from danger but provides comfort and readily available assistance when required. This should not be interpreted as a demand for a totally safe or risk-free lifestyle; taking reasonable risks can be interesting, exciting and fun, as well as necessary.

Civil Rights
Admiral Care aim to help our Clients to continue to enjoy their civil rights.

Choice
Choice consists of the opportunity to select independently from a range of options.

Fulfilment
Fulfilment has been defined as the opportunity to realise personal aspirations and abilities. It recognises and responds to levels of human satisfaction separate from the physical and the material, but it is difficult to generalise about fulfilment since it differs with precisely those areas of lifestyle where individuals differ from each other.

Our staffs are carefully vetted and their backgrounds checked with the Criminal Records Bureau. You are free to ask for a change in Carer at any time if you so desire it.

How Admiral Care maintain our standards

Policies
Running a domiciliary care business poses a variety of issues to be resolved, for Clients, staff and managers. To be sure that we behave consistently, to capture good practice and to keep everybody informed of how the Admiral Care operates, we have written down where Admiral Care stand on certain key matters and how we handle frequently recurring situations. These are our policies and procedures. Together they form quite a long list. These Policies ensure that Admiral Care meet the statutory requirements for running a Home Care Service, and cover all aspects of staffing, managing, caring for our Clients, and the preservation of health and safety standards where appropriate. All of our Policies are regularly reviewed to ensure that they are kept up-to-date and in line with latest legislation and regulations. Our master Policy Manual is held at our office but may be consulted at any time upon request or you may request copies of any specific policies which your Carer can bring to you. A list of our Policies can be found in Appendix A.

Our Quality Management System (QMS)

Admiral Care have embodied quality in our way of life and in everything we do. We define ‘quality’ as delivering a service of care appropriate to each individual Client’s needs. Admiral Care has a comprehensive Self-Assessment System which requires all of our Policies and work practices to be audited at least annually to ensure that we maintain the standards we have set ourselves. Any ‘non-conforming’ areas are corrected and reviewed for any other action that we may need to take to ensure that the problem is not repeated in the future. Our Admiral Care Team Leaders and Managers will visit you to discuss the service and check with you that it is meeting your needs. They may also, with your approval undertake spot check visits whilst carers are with you.

External Inspections

In addition to Admiral Care own Self-Assessments we also receive regular inspections from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) to ensure that we are operating as we should. Copies of our latest inspection reports may be consulted upon request. In addition to this, Admiral Care work closely with the Local Authorities Contacts Units and meet with them regularly to discuss performance and service delivery.

Admiral Care visiting your home

When Admiral Care staff attends your home they will be wearing a uniform comprising a tunic top with our logo and black trousers. All staff will carry an appropriate ID card with photograph so that he/she is easily identifiable to you. They will knock and not try to gain entry without your permission. Wherever we are entrusted with the keys or door entry number to your home, Admiral Care staff will always knock when entering so that you know who is calling. Staff will not at any time be accompanied by partners, children, friends or pets. If at any time Admiral Care is unable to attend Admiral Care will always endeavour to telephone you with the name of the replacement Admiral Carer.

Admiral Care Call Monitoring

When your Admiral Carer visits you in your home they need to record the amount of time spent with you and the tasks they have undertaken for you in accordance with your care plan. Therefore, at the beginning and end of each visit the Carer will telephone the office using a free phone number which will then log the time of the call, they will also enter in the care diary the tasks undertaken.

Call monitoring is monitored at all times during the working day and is there for your safety. It allows us to see that calls are taking place on time. If a call has been missed (for whatever reason), the system will instantly alert us to that fact, whereby we can investigate what has happened. We need accurate records of visits in order for us to maintain a correct and efficient invoicing system for the work done. We will need your permission for the staff to use the telephone at no cost to yourself, this comes in the form of a letter which we ask you to sign.

If you do not have a telephone or do not agree to give your permission for Admiral carers to use your telephone then we ask you to sign a timesheet each time your care call takes place.
